Vesak 2557 in Borobudur

The sun tint over Mount Merapi highlighted into Borobudur temple in Magelang, Central Java, until it looks Golden. From the top of the hill, the fog that blanketed the temple originally began to fade away. Soon, the temple looks clean, the field at the side altar of the Holy Temple was built for the celebration of Vesak for Buddhists.

Vesak Day is also known as Wesak, the Sacred Tri day for Buddhists around the world commemorate the three great events going on in the life of the Buddha Gautama on more 2500 years ago. Three great events: birth, perfection and the death of Gautama Buddha.

Tuesday, may 25, 2013, time ticking of Vesak in this temple will be held at 11:24:39 AM, marked by rituals and processions from Mendut temple to Borobudur temple (about ±10 km). As in previous years, at night the monks carry out pradaksina or around the temple three times, then end with the release of lanterns into the air.
